Quantum Dots

Using density functional and time dependent density functional based quantum chemical method, we study the size and shape dependent structural, electronic and optical properties of  Group III-V, IV, IV-VI, II-VI semiconductor nanoparticles of different morphologies (wurtzite, zinc-blende and others). We also study the core/shell nanoclusters as a function of both core radius and shell thickness. These size, shape as well as composition-dependent properties of semiconductor nanoparticles, which arise from the quantum confinement effect promise new inventions with new interesting properties. We have also explored the role of surface capping ligands on electronic structure and observe tunability of electronic and optical properties.
